Express Entry Eligibility

Express Entry Eligibility

Canada offers several Economic Immigration Programs aimed at helping potential immigrants secure permanent resident status. The Express Entry system is designed to expedite the process of obtaining a permanent residency visa for individuals applying through these programs. This online platform allows applicants to create Express Entry profiles and submit their applications for any of the four economic immigration programs. Seeking the assistance of a knowledgeable immigration expert can assist in building a strong profile, increasing the chances of a favourable outcome.

Requirements for Express Entry Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements for Express Entry Meeting the eligibility criteria for any of the four federal economic immigration programs is crucial to establish a strong profile for consideration in the Express Entry selection process.

The Express Entry selection system is aligned with the following federal economic immigration programs:

Each of these programs has specific eligibility requirements. However, the following criteria are common to all of them:

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Foreign workers and international students have the opportunity to achieve permanent resident status through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program. To be eligible, applicants must possess a minimum of one year of technical, professional, or skilled work experience in a managerial or professional role in Canada, within the 36 months before the application date. Additionally, obtaining a language proficiency score of CLB 5 or CLB 7 is mandatory.

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) Canada offers the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) as a primary pathway for skilled workers seeking economic immigration opportunities. An eligibility requirement is having at least one year of work experience in specific occupations falling under the National Occupation Classification skill levels 0, A, or B.

Prospective applicants must score a minimum of 67 out of 100 points on the Point Assessment Grid to be considered in the Express Entry system. Points are allocated based on six key factors, which include:

Age: Points are determined by your age at the time of application submission. Individuals aged 18 to 35 can earn a maximum of 12 points, with fewer points allocated to those older than 35.
Education: Your educational level should be equivalent to at least Canadian secondary education. Higher educational achievements result in more points.
Work Experience: To meet the minimum points requirement, one year of work experience is necessary. Accumulating additional years of work experience yields higher point allocations.
Language Proficiency: Proficiency in one or both of Canada’s official languages is of significant importance. Up to 24 points can be earned for the first official language, with an additional 4 points for the second official language.
Adaptability: A maximum of ten points can be awarded in the adaptability category if you have family members or close relatives in Canada who can provide support upon your relocation. Additional points can be obtained if your spouse is willing to accompany you in your move to Canada.
Arranged Employment: Holding a valid job offer from a Canadian employer may potentially earn you up to 10 points in this category. It’s essential to note that the job offer must be secured before submitting your Canada immigration application.
To be eligible to apply through the Express Entry program, candidates must achieve a minimum of 67 points out of 100.

Federal Skilled Trade Class (FSTP)

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) provides individuals with the opportunity to obtain permanent residency based on their expertise in skilled trades. To be eligible for the FSTP, candidates must have at least two years of full-time work experience, meeting the job requirements for skilled trades. Alternatively, applicants can possess a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian authority in the field of skilled trades or secure a one-year full-time job offer from a Canadian employer.

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

The Express Entry selection system includes a subset of Provincial Nominee Programs. However, these candidates must meet the requirements of any of the previously mentioned Federal Economic Immigration Programs. Those holding a provincial nomination within Canada can earn additional points within the Comprehensive Ranking System.
